Fri 31st Aug 2018 Kirsty Merryn "She & I" tour
Fisher Theatre
Broad Street, Bungay, Suffolk, NR35 1EE
Folk singer-songwriter Kirsty Merryn comes to the Fisher Theatre as a part of her first ever solo tour of the UK. The tour follows Kirsty’s show-stopping performances opening for folk legends Show of Hands on their 22-night tour of UK cathedrals, playing to nearly 14,000 people along the way. Kirsty’s debut album “She & I” is a collection of stories about women from history, from local legend Admiral Nelson’s mistress Emma Lady Hamilton, to Annie Edson Taylor, the first person to go over Niagara falls in a barrel. “She & I” released in November 2017 and received a fantastic reception, reaching Number 3 in the Amazon Folk Bestsellers download chart, garnering national and local airplay as well as reviews in the Guardian, the Sunday Express and many more. Beguiling and mercurial, Kirsty’s music is heavily anchored in the folk tradition with jazz and classical backwaters. But her influences have a much wider reach, ranging from Cara Dillon to Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush - emphatic piano-based songs with sharply observed lyrics - packaged with panache in elegant - beautifully balanced settings and delivered with crystal clear, assured vocals.
