Midge Ure
Ropetackle Arts Centre
Little High Street, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5EG
Midge Ure has a career that spans over 40 years – from his pop band beginnings, almost joining the Sex Pistols, the electronic ground-breaking work with Visage, via the mainstream success of Ultravox to the twists and turns of his solo releases. In 2015, Midge Ure and semi-acoustic duo, India Electric Company successfully performed the ‘Breathe Again’ show across the UK and Europe as a 20th anniversary retrospective. It was the first time Midge featured an album in its entirety and proved a successful format! Midge now plans to touch on the broad reach of his recorded output in a new ‘Something From Everything’ show, covering at least one song from every album he has released from Rich Kids in 1977, via Visage and Ultravox, to his solo albums such as the Gift, Pure and Answers To Nothing. Once again utilising the three-piece format which adds texture and depth to the material, this time Joseph O’Keefe will be adding keyboards to the mixture providing a more electronic nature to some of the songs. This will be an evening of both hits and rare gems from Midge’s back catalogue, an intimate evening with a true musical icon. Please note, this is an all standing event. Starts 8pm. Tickets: £25. Box Office: 01273 464440

Courtney Pine
Ropetackle Arts Centre
Little High Street, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5EG
Sax supremo Courtney Pine live in concert with his full band. “In a class of his own” ~ The Times “Nothing short of breathtaking” ~ The Telegraph Following his phenomenal sell-out concert in April 2016, legendary British jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine CBE returns to Ropetackle with his incredible House Of Legends show – an exhilarating evening of calypso, ska and Afro-Caribbean joy. No musician more embodies the dramatic transformation in British jazz over the past twenty years than Courtney Pine. The ground breaking multi-instrumentalist has led a generation of exciting and innovative players who have broadened their styles to take jazz out to a wider audience. Steeped in the traditions of the Caribbean, this House Of Legends show sees Courtney on top form, bringing together musicians from Africa, the Caribbean and Europe for vibrant exchanges that tell tales of life from a truly multi-cultural point of view. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening of vibrant, powerful music from one of the true greats of British jazz. Please note, this is an all-standing event. Starts 8pm. Tickets: £22.50. Thu 11th May 2017 Stick In The Wheel
The Goose Is Out!
The Ivy House - 40 Stuart Road, Nunhead, London SE15 3BE
Doors open 7pm. £7. Pay when you come in. No advance tickets....... Floorspots very welcome....... OK we know we shouldn’t have favourites, but IF we did, then Stick in the Wheel would deffo be amongst them!..... . They blew us away the first time we ever saw them live, and they have continued to do so ever since...... “Stick In The Wheel have a knack for breathing fresh life into well-worn traditional material. Their reading of Seven Gypsies doesn’t really do much to alter the content, but the delivery somehow makes it sound new” – FRUK..... “There is a pleasingly raw, simple and authentic sound to their music” – Bright Young Folk..... ” Folk revivalists with a punk attitude” – The Guardian..... As always, Stick have been doing some really innovative things lately, including curating “From Here” – an album featuring new field recordings by Jon Boden, John Kirkpatrick, Martin Carthy, Spiro, Eliza Carthy, Fay Hield, Sam Lee, Fran Foote (SITW), Jack Sharp (Wolf People), Nicola Kearey (SITW), Men Diamler, Bella Hardy, Stew Simpson, Lisa Knapp, Peta Webb & Ken Hall, Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron...... Last time Stick were at The Ivy House, they were supporting Jim Causley and it will be great to see them headlining here in their own right. Hooray!..... http://www.stickinthewheel.com/......
